Based in Kunming, with occasional domestic and international travel

CBIK is an NGO registered in Yunnan. Since 1995 it has been undertaking research and development activities with the aim of promoting sustainable natural resource use and livelihood development among ethnic minorities. Agricultural sustainability is important for the environment and livelihoods in many areas. In order to promote sustainable agricultural practices, in 2007 CBIK produced and distributed among its partners a quarterly magazine containing descriptions of environmentally friendly agricultural practices. By 2010 we hope to be able to publish a mixture of translated articles and domestic Chinese contributions.

We are seeking an individual with experience of working with farmers, to serve as the primary editor of this magazine, to be responsible for translation, writing and production of the magazine and for building up a readership. The work will be undertaken with guidance and supervision from the administrative and project directors at CBIK.

1) Translation of articles on sustainable agriculture;

2) Liaison with the printers/publishers/copy-editors;

3) Developing readership numbers;

4) Maintaining a distribution list;

5) Promoting the magazine at workshops and other events;

6) Developing partnerships with other organizations working on closely related issues

7) Working in close association with the guidance committee and other CBIK staff as appropriate

8) Maintaining communication with the funding organization and collaborators.

1) Ability to translate agricultural and rural development related material from English into Chinese to a high quality;

2) Full mastery of common Office-based software;
