6. CBIK''''s work in Nujiang
CBIK staff became involved in work in Nujiang in 1999, when the Provincial Planning Commission requested a biodiversity threat analysis study, which was conducted in three localities (Dulongjiang, Dimaluo and Shuanglawa) in Gongshan. In 2000, CBIK staff were commissioned by the Provincial Forestry Department to undertake a social impact assessment in Shuanglawa village in preparation for a World Bank GEF project application, and the Planning Commission requested CBIK to develop community development and conservation plans in preparation for an ADB - GEF proposal for Dimaluo village in Gongshan and Fuhe village in Lanping. The Nature Conservancy (USA) and GTZ () are now beginning to work in Shuanglawa village together with the county Reserve Management Bureau.
Since early 2003, CBIK has obtained a grant from IDRC (Canada) to follow up on its earlier work in Dimaluo village. CBIK is now supporting participatory technology development processes involving farmers and local government animal husbandry technicians in experiments aimed at improving winter fodder supply, and supporting the community to improve the management of collective resources (e.g. alpine pastures) and public goods (e.g. livestock immunization services).
